Flying Lotus - 1983 (2006)

Se eu não estou enganado, Flying Lotus é sobrinho-neto de Alicia Coltrane e John Coltrane. Isto lhe rende certas comparações, do tipo "John Coltrane do Hip Hop", ou algo assim. Se é exagerado ou não, cada um vai ter que tirar sua conclusão, na verdade essa comparação está muito mais ligada a temática, tanto John com FlyLo incorporam em sua musicalidade elementos espirituais, transcedentais, eu diria até, cósmicos.
Esse é o primeiro trabalho, antes tem uma demo muito interessante também. O som gera polêmica, na primeira audição parece estranho, mas é bem sofisticado, de fato é um grande produtor, e vem em ascenção. Ficou conhecido por fazer uns beats pro Adult Swim, tem mais 2 cds, alguns EPs, faz muitas participações em estilos diferentes do Hip Hop.
É isso aí, só ouvindo pra tirar sua conclusão.

Yesterdays New Quintet presents Sound Directions: The Funky Side of Life

O Yesterday New Quintet é um projeto do louco alucinado Madlib, onde ele joga umas beats, uns samples, sempre com muita qualidade, e conta com a presença de grandes músicos fazendo intervenções com a instrumentação. A questão é que esses músicos (Otis Jackson Jr. [nome verdadeiro de MadLib], Young Jazz Rebels) são na verdade pseudônimos, ou melhor, indo além, personagens imaginários dessa cabeça louca.

No final das contas, é tudo Madlib, é tudo legal. CONFIRA.

Essa compilação é muito louca, conheci faz uns 3 anos. Hoje, passeando pelos meus DVD´s naquele momento "descarrego" particular (reunião pedagógica sábado pela manhã é pior que chute na canela), achei essa parada. Jazzman Records; garimpada pesada dos registros em 7" contendo funk, soul, smoth jazz, brasilianices & derivados, tudo com o mais alto teor de raridade.
Algumas faixas são razoáveis, mas existem quatro que valem demais a audição: Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child; Brother Where Are You; Morning Broadway, e a que dá nome a compilação, What is Wrong Whit Groovin'.
